And here we are, 2008 has almost come to an end as I write this. I would like to greet everyone a Happy New Year!, and may 2009 be an eventful year for everyone.
You may have noticed that this site could be quite slow at times, fear not, HP to the rescue!
Earlier this week Roesand.com was moved to a more robust server. I assume you'll see some difference in the speed of the site. Roesand.com is now running on a HP Proliant with dual Intel Quad Core Xeon 12MB cache processors and 10GB of memory, so that should take care of things, hopefully.
Since I'm running Joomla, you may not see an extreme increase in speed of the interface itself, Joomla is kinda slow compared to other CMS systems. It's written in PHP, maybe that's got something to do with, I don't know. But you most definitely will see an increase in graphics handling. Surf away!
There is always something to buy, and since summer I've been playing with the idea of getting a sound recorder, so that I'm able to record sound with my images. Should be handy when I want to make some sound slides.
This 1 minute sample is recorded with the Zoom H4 Handy Recorder. The signal is boosted and saved from Audacity.
Sunday, and a beautiful day for a walk. I have a nice hiking area just a few minutes away from my house, so it is easy to get out and breath some fresh air and shoot some pictures. Today the weather was really nice, so this was a nice break in an usually dark and wet time.
I went down to the local marina where there's always something to photograph. Today though it was just some seagulls fighting over one of the twenty something poles in the area, go figure. I walked out to a point where there's usually a lot of fishing going on, today, nada, What luck!
Oh well, time to move on then. I headed up a trail as the sun was close to the horizon. Suddenly I saw a burning bush!, what?, not quite, but it was some real nice sun light shining on some dead shrubbery. Quickly dialed in f2.8, ISO 400 and -2EV, got a frame.
On the way I also came across some backlit conditions, time to utilize that D700 dynamic range again, how I love this thing. Harsh sun from the sky, again some -1EV and I think I'm good to go. Converted to mono in Lightroom 2.2 R3.
Turned out be quite a nice day after all. Until those crazy dogs come driving, sorry for the out-of-focus picture, but he came up so darn fast, didn't have time to react. I tell ya, nothing surprises me anymore. Thank God it's Christmas soon, so we'll have those reindeer flying around instead.
All pictures captured with a D700 and AF-S 24-70mm f2.8 lens. Written to SanDisk Extreme IV Ducati Edition compact flash card.
