Today I was sitting at the office and doing some mundane paper work, when I suddenly heard a really deep bass hum, you know the kind that makes you stop what your doing and listen, and ask your self, What the fu..! is that?!, I soon got my answer.
You see, the airport is not far from my office, so I'm quite used to hearing choppers and planes passing by, but I've not heard much of this sound before, maybe once or twice many years ago. But I started to recognise the sound.
And there it was, a big Orion from the Royal Norwegian Air Force glided in to something that looked like a landing. I shouted to my college what I was seeing, let's say you wouldn't ask him twice to get in the car. We grabbed our camera bags and ran really fast, well, fast for 40 year olds that is.
Rushed to the airport, but disappointment hit when we learned that there was no Orion there, they just did a fly-over, bummer!
While we where there we did shoot some pictures, nothing special, but I'll post some here. Processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.3.

TED is an awesome site with a lot of inspiration. I particularly found these photography talks exhilarating. I had to choose one to embed here, so I though I'd post the James Nachtwey talk. Brilliant stuff, I experienced his talk at Nordic Light in 2006, not easy to forget his powerful words and photography.
Winter has almost come to an end, and the spring is really starting to show outside. The last week has been fantastic in terms of weather, a bit cold today, but the days before that has been really nice.
I've started to make some plans for the time ahead of us. Spring and summer is a beautiful time to go outside making pictures.
Take the shot above for example, a beautiful place called Dalsnibba in the Geiranger fjord in Norway. I'll be going back this year to try and shot some material for some high resolution panoramas. I'll post them here, probably going to Zoomify them as well. So stay tuned for that.
I'm currently building a workflow for my panorama shots. I'm not sure what software to use yet, but it looks like I'm opting for some packages that are available both on Windows and Linux. I've been testing some of them, so I'm starting to make up my mind about what software to get. I'll write about that in more detail in a later post.
The reason for this, is that I'm building a dual workflow right now, I like to be able to do my work on both platforms, I'm planning to go completely over to Linux this year. Don't get me wrong, Windows 7 looks to be a really good release, but I feel Linux is the way to go for the future.
Oh, and it looks like I'll be shooting some night-stuff some time this week, you know, star trails and such. Never done that, so that should be a new experience.

Just to make a statement that I truly am a gear head, this is the new camera in the family. I've been thinking about this for a while now, so finally I've done it.
I know that the words 'thinking' and 'new camera' in the same sentence makes no sense to a gear head, but hey, I'm an amateur photographer, so to justify the amount of money this camera costs, one do need to think about it. Not that it had any influence on the decision though, cause my mind was already set. I'M GETTING THAT CAMERA!
On Friday a second hand (as new) Nikon D3 with only 1978 clicks got delivered to my local post office. So now I'm all set, finally.
Oh btw, NIN rocks. Listening to 'Pilgrimage' from 'The Fragile' record as I type this, Epic.
