A day trip to Alnes lighthouse
Saturday, 20 June 2009 21:25

In the last week of May 2009, I went for a short drive, a few hours from my home town. I plotted a course down to Ålesund and Giske, my goal was to visit the Alnes light house.

The weather was clody, so I really looked forward to get some images of the light house. I'm happy with the results.

Once I was in the area, I encountered some horrible driving conditions due to maintenance work on the three under water tunnels on the way to Giske, other than that it was a great way to spend a Sunday.

Here are some images from the trip. On the last shot I tried to mimic a night shot.

Über light blog lately
Wednesday, 17 June 2009 19:42

Yes I know, it is really slow around here at the moment. It does not mean I've forgotten that I have a blog, but as usual I don't quite seem to get around to do all the things I want to when it comes to photography. I feel kinda empty, much like this picture, too much technical stuff at work, and it drains me. But hopfully I have some vacation coming up, so I'm pretty sure I'll shoot some pictures then.

Empty hall

Oh, my home town got a little visit from his Royal Highness King Harald the 5th of Norway, so there was alot of stuff happening during those hours, so I got to shoot some pictures at the local airport.

Working those old D70 RAW files

As I've said before, I really like to go back to my old files and do a re-work on them with new software. This is the case with Adobe Lightroom 2.3 too.

So last night I did do just that on some old Nikon D70 NEF's that have only been processed using RawShooter many years ago. With Lightroom I have a lot more tools available, so I was able to make something interesting out of these old files.

One thing that hits me though, I have to tell you that, those D70 NEF's are fast to work with compared to my D3 and D700 NEF's, I kinda miss that speed, it's good for my work flow.

For these images I used gradients again, that is one of those incredible useful tool's that you can not live without after using them once. I was shurley hooked after first time use.

Hope you like them.

Spring is coming, fast!
Monday, 13 April 2009 22:57

Yup, spring is coming, and while we are at this beautiful point in time, I cannot help but think of what wonderful time the fall also is, actually, it is my favourite time of the year, looking forward to it this year too.

I remember it vividly, the fall that is, in 2004 when I first went digital I was all over the place with this poly-carbonate image capturing device, shooting pictures, JPEG's mostly, until, of course, I discovered the RAW file format, haven't looked back since.

So today, while cleaning up my image archive I found this oldie, it's an image I shot with my D70 back in 2004, I was lucky too, this was shot RAW, so I'm able to go back and revise it when ever there are advances made to imaging software technology.

Ran it through Adobe Lightroom 2.3, which has quite a few bells and whistles. I utilized gradients for this image to make it into what I wanted. I think it worked out quite well too.

Well, the D70 is history, I'm now shooting Nikon D3 and D700 full-frame bodies. It's not just software that's improving, digital SLR's has come a long way since the D70.
